Community Development Agreement

Our Community Development Agreement (CDA) in energy project context is an emerging area of legal and regulatory practice in Nigeria, which relates to how oil and gas and mining corporations engage with their host communities around the areas where resource exploration and development activities take place.

In recent times, there is an emerging trend in which relations between communities and energy sector corporations in Nigeria is increasingly being regulated through a number of Federal legislations such as the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act and the Nigerian Minerals and Mining Act.

So, in addition to the regular practice areas, our firm now has unique competency and specialist skills in the area of CDAs, sustainable community development strategy modeling, community benefit management systems’ structuring, context-specific engagement framework, community-related conflict prevention and management options. As a result, this is an area that we can provide legal advisory services, GMOU negotiation supports, strategic community development framework review, training and capacity building workshops for in-house team and other industry stakeholders.

In all these, the aim is generally to ensure that there is always value for money and that community investments meet current sustainability requirements through reviews, strategic evaluation of the operative engagement framework and we wish that you profit from this aspect of our service as well.
